The South Dade Senior High School Buccaneers delivered a dominant 45–0 victory over Miami High on Oct. 10, showcasing strength and discipline on both sides of the ball.
Head Coach Patrick Burrows praised his players’ balanced performance while keeping the focus on growth and teamwork.
“Our offense, defense, and special teams all played very well. We got a shutout,” Burrows said.
Running back Elijah Burrows led the way with multiple rushing touchdowns and key defensive plays, while James Hope added a touchdown on special teams.
“It was a team effort, and our offensive line really played well. I’m proud of the team—they really stepped up,” Coach Burrows added.
The victory improved the Bucs’ record to 3–4, a mark Coach Burrows believes reflects a young but promising team. He highlighted top contributors including defensive ends Michael Harris and Uriah Gomez, running back Andrew Simmons, and receiver James Hope.
“I’ve been coaching in Miami-Dade for many years, and I know how to build teams,” Burrows said. “I look at a loss as an opportunity to learn and improve.”
The win followed a lively pre-game pep rally featuring the South Dade marching band, the award-winning Sapphires dance team, and the Bucs cheerleaders, all of whom helped fire up the crowd.
Principal Jonathan Britton praised the event for strengthening school spirit.
“I’m glad to see the students and teachers having so much fun and showing real school pride,” he said.
With renewed momentum and a roster full of young talent, the Buccaneers aim to keep their playoff hopes alive as the season continues in Miami-Dade’s competitive league.
