Tarpon Battle

James fights a 170 pound tarpon in Biscayne Bay.

James and his two sons (Ryan and Jack) jumped aboard on Monday for some tarpon fishing and the fish did not disappoint. At our second spot we got a subtle hit on one of the rods (a sign that something huge was down below) and James winds like mad. The rod bent, the reel started to scream and one big jump revealed a tarpon over 150 pounds was on the other end and very mad at James! After a prolonged fight we released the behemoth and made the quick run back to the marina with smiles and sore arms.

David and Rhonda from Georgia were in town for a conference and took a day to fish Biscayne Bay over the weekend. We spent the majority of the trip tarpon fishing and after quite awhile, Rhonda hooked up to about a 90 pound tarpon. Three big jumps later the fish spits the hook and he’s off. The number of tarpon were thick but few hook ups. The trout fishing was very slow, so we called it a day before the Sunday mayhem on the water began. Capt. Mo Estevez www.MiamiBoneFishing.com
