The Homestead community gathered on Friday, May 2nd, to celebrate the grand re-opening of pickleball and tennis courts at JD Redd Park.

The work included resurfacing tennis courts, new pickleball courts, enhanced seating, and Wi-Fi access.

City of Homestead leaders were pleased with the improvements to the park. Mayor Steven Losner said, "We're proud to reinvest in JD Redd Park, one of the oldest, if not the oldest, parks in Homestead, by updating it with modern amenities that reflect the needs of today's residents. From tennis to the rapidly growing sport of pickleball, we're committed to offering something for everyone. I hope each and every one of you enjoys this facility for many years to come."

Councilwoman Erica Avila remarked, "Congratulations to the residents of the City of Homestead, especially the families who frequent JD Redd Park. This is a beautiful addition to our community. I want to thank the Parks, Recreation, and Open Spaces Department for their dedication and commitment to making this happen quickly and beautifully."

Zerry Ihekwaba, city manager, was also pleased and said there developed park is a part of the overall improvements to the city.

Ihekwaba exclaimed, "Homestead is rising! This is one of our first major initiatives centered on pickleball, the fastest-growing sport in America. And it's just the beginning. This facility will remain open daily until 10 pm, so residents can enjoy it to the fullest. More exciting projects like this are on the way."

Pedro Reynaldos, director of Parks, Recreation, and Open Spaces, discussed the importance of JD Redd Park to the Homestead community.

"It's a true pleasure to stand here today at JD Redd Park, which holds deep meaning in Homestead's history and in the hearts of so many of our residents. For decades, this park has been a cornerstone of the community, a space where children have played team sports, families have gathered for picnics, and neighbors have come together to celebrate life's milestones."

JD Redd Park has witnessed generations of Homestead families grow, and today we continue that proud tradition with the opening of our brand-new pickleball and tennis courts. But our work doesn't stop here. We're making improvements across our parks system to ensure every resident has access to quality recreation," said Reynaldos
