The South Dade Senior High School football team suffered a 42-15 loss against Columbus. However, the previous week, they defeated Killian High School 49-7.
The game was essentially over by the end of the third quarter, as the Bucs had a 21-point lead. During the game, Jayden Shropshire played incredibly well for South Dade, rushing for 42 yards, and scoring two touchdowns. He also had 44 receiving yards and caught a touchdown pass. Montrey Jackson returned a punt for a touchdown.
The South Dade defense also performed well and had six sacks. Victor Guerrero and Korday Melvin led the Bucs in sacks. Next up for the Bucs is a strong Palmetto team. The Bucs will host them on October 4th at 7:30 pm at Harris Field. South Dade is 2-3 and Palmetto is 3-2.
The Homestead Senior High School football team enjoyed a 77-6 win over Southwest on September 12th, but their most recent game was a letdown. The Homestead Broncos suffered a loss to the Southridge Spartans by a score of 17-14. This is the closest defeat the Broncos have suffered against the Spartans since September 5th, 2014.
Malachi “Bubba” Lewis threw for 253 yards on 18 of 29 attempts and rushed for 30 yards. Jacari Lannigan and Shandon Smith scored for Southridge. Homestead now has a 2-3 record.
Southridge is enjoying more success: The win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-1. Homestead will challenge Doral Academy at 7:00 pm on Friday, October 4th. Homestead's defense has only allowed 16.8 points per game this season, so Doral Academy's offense will face a challenge. As for Southridge, they will visit Edison at 7:00 pm on Saturday, October 5th.
