A spectacular drone show by Luna Lite will serve as the finale of the City of Homestead’s Veterans Day activities.

The Emmy and Gold Medal-winning South Florida Youth Symphony (SFYS) will open its 61st season on Nov. 9 with a free Veterans Day concert at the Seminole Theatre, 18 N. Krome Avenue in Homestead.

The concert, part of the City of Homestead’s Veterans Day celebration, will feature guest conductor Michael J. Davis, former Director of Bands and Orchestras for Walt Disney Worldwide, and guest narrator Rev. William S. Wiecher, Col., USAF (retired). The program begins at 7:15 p.m.

Unlike in previous years, this year’s SFYS concert — sponsored in part by the Kiwanis Club of Homestead-South Dade, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, and Miami-Dade County District 9 Commissioner Kionne L. McGhee — will take place inside the Seminole Theatre instead of outdoors at Losner Park. The change in venue is due to construction of the city’s seasonal ice rink in the park.

In addition to indoor seating, a large screen will be mounted on the theater’s exterior wall so residents can sit outside with lawn chairs and enjoy the patriotic-themed concert. The outdoor area will also feature a gift fair and pop-up eateries.

“This is a unique indoor/outdoor concert setting,” said Marjorie Hahn, Executive and Music Director of the South Florida Youth Symphony. “Last year, we drew more than 1,200 residents — more than the theater can hold. By showing the concert live on a large screen outside, we have the opportunity to entertain an even larger part of the South Dade community.”

Doors to the theater open at 6:30 p.m. Following the performance, a spectacular drone show — presented by Luna Lite — will take place over Losner Park.
