Athziri Mejia is proud of the work her team did to develop an app that runners can use to track their performance during workouts and competitions.
A member of the South Dade Senior High School Academy of Information Technology, the team is working to create an app that will help a runner who wants to improve receive performance information.
“It shows a breakdown of the runner’s performance in areas such as stride and heart rate,” said Mejia.
“We are still working on this app.”
The students from the South Dade Academy of Information Technology have been recognized for their work on the app and have been invited to the NAF benefit in New York City in May.
The students, including Kameron Rosier, Nathaniel Torres, Akanni Johnson, and Mejia, will present the app they have developed as part of their project-based learning experience. Their work demonstrates how students are applying cutting-edge skills in artificial intelligence, design, and problem solving to address real-world challenges, according to Mark Godinez, lead teacher of IT at South Dade.
During the event, students will engage directly with industry professionals from leading companies. They will showcase their projects, discuss their career interests, and gain valuable insight into future pathways in technology and business. The student presentations are a central part of the networking reception. This experience can be a pivotal moment, transforming classroom learning into real-world application and future opportunities.
“This opportunity allows our students to step into professional spaces and present their ideas with confidence to industry leaders,” said Godinez.
“We are excited to have been selected to represent our school.”
