State Rep. Omar Blanco traded office work for kennel duty during a recent visit to PAWS4you Rescue, joining staff and volunteers to help care for animals and learn about the organization's needs.
As part of his “On the Job with OB” initiative, Blanco bathed puppies, walked dogs, cleaned kennels and washed food and water bowls alongside PAWS4you founder and Executive Director Carol Caridad and the rescue's volunteers, according to the organization.
The visit also included a discussion of the daily challenges facing animal rescue organizations and PAWS4you's plans for improvements to its Miami facility.
“He didn't just come to visit and tour our retreat, he literally rolled up his sleeves and experienced the work that goes into caring for these animals every single day,” Caridad said in a statement.
PAWS4you is preparing a capital campaign to support major renovations and facility improvements. The organization said those improvements will help it continue caring for rescued animals and serving the community.
“There's no better way to understand the incredible work happening in our community than to roll up your sleeves and be a part of it,” Blanco said in a statement.
PAWS4you is a nonprofit, no-kill rescue serving dogs and cats in South Florida through medical care, rehabilitation, fostering, adoption and community education.
Information about volunteering, fostering, adoption and donations is available at PAWS4you.org.
