For Tiffany Yearty, the idea behind Birthday Boxes for Good began with a decision no parent wants to face.In 2017, as a first-time mother, Yearty found herself having to choose between paying household bills and purchasing a birthday gift for her child. Years later, she saw other families facing similar struggles during the COVID-19 shutdown.

Those experiences stayed with her.In November 2025, Yearty began a small initiative she called “A Mom With 2 Boys.” Part of the goal was to teach her own children the importance of giving to others.By January 2026, the effort had grown into Birthday Boxes for Good, Inc., a Florida nonprofit working to make sure children experiencing financial hardship still have something to celebrate on their birthdays.

The South Miami-Dade organization provides birthday kits, gifts and celebration supplies for children whose families may not otherwise be able to afford them. It also works with children living in shelters or foster care and families connected with Title I schools and community organizations.

To date, Yearty said the organization has served approximately 75 children through its birthday programs, community events, donations and partnerships.

Its primary service area is Miami-Dade County, particularly families experiencing financial hardship and children connected with schools, shelters, foster-care programs and community organizations.

Rather than requiring families to navigate a new system on their own, Birthday Boxes for Good works with existing community partners so birthday resources can reach children through organizations families already know and trust.

The nonprofit’s most consistent needs include new toys, gift cards, gift bags, wrapping paper, tape, decorations and other materials used to create individual birthday celebrations.

Residents can also assist through monetary donations, volunteering, sharing information about the organization or connecting Birthday Boxes for Good with businesses and community organizations interested in becoming partners.“Our goal is simple: to make sure children in our community know that their birthday matters and they matter, too,” Yearty said.

Birthday Boxes for Good is continuing to seek community partners, volunteers and donated supplies as it expands. Additional information is available at BirthdayBoxesForGood.org and on Instagram at @birthdayboxesforgood.
