Construction Generic

Two major projects are moving forward in South Dade, with construction beginning on water and sewer upgrades along Krome Avenue and Miami-Dade County preparing to break ground on a new pet adoption center.

In Homestead, crews have begun mobilizing for the Krome Avenue Water and Sewer Upgrades Project.

Work will extend along Krome Avenue from Southwest 328th Street/Lucy Street to the Miami-Dade County Busway. The project is intended to modernize Homestead's water and sewer system, increase capacity, improve reliability and prepare the city for future growth.

Crews will install traffic-control devices and establish a temporary traffic pattern throughout the project area.

One lane of traffic will remain open in each direction on Krome Avenue during this phase. The existing bicycle lanes will be closed, and cyclists will share the road with vehicles using new shared-lane markings.

On-street parking will be temporarily removed. Motorists should expect delays in and around active work zones, and the Lucy Trolley may experience temporary delays because of construction activity.

Construction crews will follow applicable safety protocols and work to limit disruptions while maintaining access throughout the project area.

City leaders are asking motorists, cyclists and pedestrians to allow additional travel time and use caution when passing through the construction zone. Drivers should follow posted signs and traffic-control devices and watch for construction personnel and equipment.

Elsewhere in South Dade, Miami-Dade County is preparing to begin work on a new facility for animals awaiting adoption.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and the Miami-Dade County Animal Services Department will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the South Dade Pet Adoption and Protection Center at 10 a.m. Aug. 11.

The $25 million, 30,000-square-foot facility is expected to expand access to animal care, veterinary services and pet adoption while supporting the county's continued animal-welfare efforts.

The project is being developed through a public-private partnership and represents a significant investment in animal services for South Miami-Dade's growing communities.

The groundbreaking ceremony will take place at 29500 Harriet Tubman Highway.
