Dade County Farm Bureau member Kelvin Moreno was a top ten finalist in the American Farm Bureau Federation’s Excellence in Agriculture competition at the organization’s annual meeting in San Diego Jan. 11-14.

Moreno, a fifth generation beef cattleman and farmer, advanced to the national competition after winning the Florida Excellence in Agriculture competition in October.

The Excellence in Agriculture competition is one of three challenging programs that give Florida Farm Bureau’s Young Farmers & Ranchers, ages 18-35, opportunities to be recognized for their contributions to agriculture.

The Excellence in Agriculture event brings attention to young people who are agricultural enthusiasts but have not earned a majority of their income from an owned production agriculture enterprise in the past three years. Competitors are evaluated on their understanding of agricultural issues, leadership experiences and career achievements.
