Under clear skies at Crandon Golf Course, the Mexican American Council (MAC) brought together community leaders, local businesses, and advocates for a cause that continues to shape the future of South Dade’s youth.
The organization hosted its annual MAC Charity Golf Classic this past weekend, drawing 15 teams to the course in support of expanding access to arts and education programs for young people. The tournament blended competition with purpose, as participants from groups such as the Dade County Farm Bureau, Florida Power & Light, and the MPH Club took part in a day centered on community impact.
When the final scores were tallied, CBT College of Business and Technology emerged as tournament champions with an impressive score of 64. The team was led by the steady play of Jared Lugo and Joseph Hernandez, whose consistency throughout the day secured the top spot.
Support for the event extended across South Florida, with sponsorships from the Miami Heat, Miami Marlins, the Jay Family Foundation, Miami-Dade County Vice Chair Kionne L. McGhee, and Miami’s Best Blinds.
The South Dade News Leader was also proud to serve as a sponsor and to be present throughout the event, witnessing firsthand the energy and collaboration that defined the day.
For MAC, the tournament is about more than golf. It is a way to directly invest in opportunities for young people who might otherwise lack access to creative and educational resources.
“We are grateful to the continued support of all of our local businesses, family and friends,” said MAC’s Eddie Garza.
“Today was not only a day of impact, but a day of building community that will give our kids a better chance and a brighter future.”
That sense of purpose carried across the course — from the first tee to the final putt — serving as a reminder that when a community shows up together, the results extend far beyond the scoreboard.
