Members of John G. Salley American Legion Post 43

Members of John G. Salley American Legion Post 43 and dozens of scouts participated in a special effort June 19, 2026 at Camp Owaissa Bauer in support of the Homestead Town Hall Museum. The details will be provided in an upcoming edition of the South Dade News Leader.

Members of John G. Salley American Legion Post 43 have had a busy month as they make final preparations for what will be one of the biggest celebrations they’ve ever held.

The “250th Birthday Party for the U.S.A.” will start at 12:00 p.m., with 2:00 p.m. for the opening ceremony.

In the “something for everyone” intent, bounce houses, face painting, games and activities will be for the kids and a few might even enter the pie eating contest. The adult beer can golf is bound to bring some laughs and the Barstool Billygoats will be playing their classic rock from mid-afternoon to early evening.

A variety of food and drinks will be available for purchase and with raffles going all day there are prizes to be won and giveaways, too. The theme for the day is, “Supporting Our Nation, Supporting Our Veterans, Supporting Our Freedom!”

The afternoon wouldn’t be possible without a lot of effort and the post is joined in this one by members of Arrant-Smith VFW Post 4127 (Veterans of Foreign Wars Post). And as always, the Ladies’ Auxiliaries are hard at work, and generous sponsors help with donations.

Jason Nimark, Post Commander, recently attend the 107th Department of Florida American Legion Conference where he shared the many activities of the post. “A true highlight for me was being installed during a special ceremony as the Southern Area/District 14 Vice Commander. I am proud to continue serving our Legion Family and look forward to working together to strengthen our mission.”

Events such as the upcoming Fourth of July celebration are open to the community even as the Post provides different programs specifically for veterans and their families.

The American Legion is located at 399 S. Krome Ave., Homestead. They are open daily 12:00-10:00 p.m., and routinely have activities such as Taco Tuesday, Veterans Appreciation lunches, Italian Dinners, Live Music events and more for members and guests.
