Uncle Sam

The Fourth of July means many things to Americans all over the world. While many celebrations will finish with fireworks, during the day the smell of hamburgers and hot dogs cooking on the grill will fill the air. Let’s not forget mom’s mouthwatering potato salad or baked beans that will be on the table.

The one thing missing is a great dessert – many which show the great colors of our nation Red, White and Blue.

Here is a little recipe from my home for you to enjoy and try. Happy Fourth of July!

Uncle Sam Ice Cream Cones

What you’ll need:

• 1 Wafer ice cream cone

• White frosting

• Blue fruit leather

• Red and blue decorating gels

• Red and blue M&M’s

• Canister of ready-made whipped cream

Instructions:

Roll out the fruit leather and wrap around the wide rim of the cone securing with frosting.  Place a small piece on the bottom of the cone as well.

Scoop a ball of ice cream and place cone upside down on the scoop.  Use red icing to create stripes and white for stars on the cone.  Decorate ice cream ball with blue M&M’s for the eyes and red for the mouth.  Use whip cream to make a fluffy beard under mouth on plate.

You can place on a cookie sheet or muffin tin in the freezer without the whip cream prior to serving.
