Facing increasingly difficult conditions on the water, Westminster Christian’s sailing team pulled out a monumental performance to capture gold in the SAISA (South Atlantic Interscholastic Sailing Association) High School Girl’s District Championship.

Hosted by Jacksonville University, the competition was struck by storms in the area, which despite the resulting rough seas, created ideal sailing winds.

The duo of Olivia de Olazarra and Natalia Gagliano teamed up to outlast their competition and take home first place for the Lady Warriors.

Palmer Trinity Athlete Honored

Palmer Trinity volleyball star Ashley Quero was honoed this past week with two awards at the “Premios Copa Dorada” sports luncheon.

Quero was presented with the Golden Cup Award and the People’s Choice Award.

Created in 1988, the luncheon was created to honor the best and brightest Hispanic athletes in Miami-Dade County.

Homestead Volleyball Falls

Homestead’s boys volleyball program was dealt another loss, this time at the hands of perennial contenders Coral Reef in straight sets (25-13, 25-3, 25-10).

Coral Reef’s ninth win of the year was powered by Cito Ruiz’s performance that included eight aces, seven kills, and eight digs.

Andrew Arabitg finished with five aces, one kill, and eight digs while Neil Kotun added five aces and 14 assists.

Alberto Gamonal finished with two aces, three kills, and six digs for the Barracudas.

South Dade Sweeps Lady Cudas

South Dade softball’s season of redemption continued with their 13th win of the year, this time a 7-4 victory over Coral Reef, completing a season sweep of the Lady Cudas.

Tatum Rodriguez threw her ninth win of the year, pitching solid throughout the game.

Sister Tabitha Rodriguez led the offense with a three-run home run while tallying two runs of her own.

Thea Ramirez finished going 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI while Karah Atkins went 3-for-4 with two RBI as well.

Westminster Softball Captures Win

Playing in the annual Belleview Tournament in Ocala, Westminster Christian picked up a dominant 11-1 win over Yulee.

Victoria Perez shined, dominating both on the mound and at the plate.

Perez picked up her ninth win of the year thanks to solid pitching while going 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBI in the victory. Nikia Benitez was also strong, going 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI as well.

Aly Mena flexed her offensive muscle, blasting a solo home run in the contest as well.
