Westminster Dominates

Westminster Christian defenders tackle a Cardinal Newman runner in their Regional Semifinal win.

Westminster Christian’s march to the State Finals began with a triumphant 40-10 victory in the Regional Semifinals over Cardinal Newman at home.

After last year’s heartbreaking loss in the state semi-finals on a late touchdown, the Warriors have been focused all year on making another deep playoff run.

Their win over the Crusaders was aided heavily by young quarterback Christian Matos.

Matos, who has shown moments of brilliance this year, had a strong game, throwing for 122 passing yards, including four touchdowns.

Senior star Jordan Cronkrite ran for 114 yards and a touchdown.

Akil Oliver showed why he is also an anchor of the offense, catching two touchdowns in the game.

Tim Irvin added three catches for 32 yards and a touchdown.

Westminster’s defense came up big as well, with James Sutton tallying four sacks in their first round playoff win.

The Warriors will now travel to Curtis Park Friday night to face American Heritage-Delray for the Regional Finals.
