Looking to avenge their loss last season to the now-defending 2A State Champions, Westminster Christian defeated Champagnat in a 48-13 offensive clinic.
The Warriors started the scoring in the opening quarter thanks to a Jordan Cronkrite rush.
Champagnat answered back with a deep touchdown pass in the second, but the Warriors replied quickly.
Quarterback Christian Matos first found Akil Oliver for a 47 yard touchdown pass, then Elbre Gaiter for a 14 yard touchdown pass.
After former South Dade player Paris Manyou scored for Champagnat, Westminster answered back with another Cronkrite run to increase their lead before the half.
Gaiter would add the only third quarter scoring in the game when he returned a Champagnat fumble eight yards for a score.
Westminster added two more touchdowns, a one yard run from Oliver and a 45 yard run from Michael Whyte, in the final frame to seal the victory away.
“We have to do the little things right,” head coach Sedrick Irvin said after the win. “We just have to take it one game at a time. It won’t get any easier. It’s only going to get tougher.”
Cronkrite would finish with 18 carries for 147 yards and two touchdowns to lead the ground game, while Gaiter led the receivers with 3 catches for 65 yards.
