Miami Southridge earned its first victory of the season Aug. 28, defeating the Homestead Broncos 24-6 at Harris Field.
The Spartans entered the South Dade matchup looking to recover from a difficult season opener against Columbus.
Southridge responded with a balanced offensive performance and a defense that held Homestead to one score.
Southridge recorded 218 rushing yards and 175 passing yards for 393 yards of total offense.
Quarterback Lamech Rucker threw for 175 yards and one touchdown, providing the Spartans with an effective passing threat. Deaundray Greene led the ground attack with 96 yards and a touchdown on nine carries.
The victory improved Southridge’s record to 1-1 following its 45-7 loss to Columbus on Aug. 20.
Homestead fell to 0-2 after opening its season with a 29-0 loss to American High School.
Although the Broncos found the end zone against Southridge, they were unable to generate enough offense to overcome the Spartans’ advantage on the ground and through the air.
The game continued a recent run of victories for Southridge in the series. The Spartans defeated Homestead 17-14 in 2024 and 59-18 in 2025.
Southridge will attempt to build on the victory as it continues its schedule against Miami-Dade competition.
Homestead, meanwhile, will look to regroup as the Broncos prepare for their next South Dade matchup.
