South Dade Senior High School's girls volleyball team continued its strong start to the 2026 season Tuesday, defeating Killian in straight sets at home.

The Buccaneers controlled the match from beginning to end, taking the three sets 25-12, 25-16 and 25-10 to earn a 3-0 victory.

South Dade improved to 4-2 with the win and has now won 13 of its last 16 matches dating back to last season.

Senior Catalina Mora helped lead the Buccaneers against Killian, recording five service aces, three digs and a solo block.

Junior Alejandra Arellano also played an important role in South Dade's offense, finishing with 19 assists, four digs and two aces.

The victory continued a productive early-season stretch for a South Dade program that has already faced several teams from the southern portion of Miami-Dade County.

The Buccaneers have picked up victories over both Homestead and Miami Southridge during the opening weeks of the season.

South Dade swept Southridge in three sets Aug. 27 before earning another 3-0 victory against Homestead on Sept. 1.

The Killian match continued that trend, with South Dade allowing the Cougars only 38 points across the three sets.

The Buccaneers have received contributions from several players this season. Mora has been among the team's leaders in kills, while Mariah Hernandez has helped provide a presence at the net. Danai Coats has contributed defensively, and Laian Bogris has been one of South Dade's leading servers.

South Dade will now turn its attention to the next portion of its schedule as the continue working through a mix of district and non-district opponents.

The team is scheduled to travel to Northwestern on Thursday before facing Coral Reef next week.

With several South Dade-area programs appearing on the schedule this fall, the Buccaneers will have more opportunities to build on their early-season momentum.
