The Somerset Academy Silver Palms high school football team is off to a good start. The Stallions began their season with a 41 to 7 victory over Coral Glades. This Friday, they will host Mater Academy Charter at 7 pm. According to head coach Matt Dixon, the Stallions played well and should improve on last year’s 4-6 record. Quarterback Humberto Serrano completed 10 of 16 passes for 187 yards and one touchdown. Kayron Bryant had five rushes for 40 yards and one touchdown.
“Our team did well, and we have a good team this year. We have 13 seniors and a new turf field,” said Dixon. The Stallions have coaches with big time experience. Juquan Johnson is an assistant coach who played for the University of Miami and the Buffalo Bills. Athletics director Rodney Smith played for Florida State University and the Minnesota Vikings.
