Under the bright lights of Monday Night Football, former Homestead Bronco John Brown and former South Dade Buccaneer Ed Stinson made their debut as teammates for the Arizona Cardinals, reminiscent of their youth football days, beating the San Diego Chargers 18-17, thanks to a fourth quarter comeback capped off by a game winning 13 yard pass touchdown by Brown.
Catching it in the flat, Brown impressively shook multiple defenders and scored the touchdown. He finished the night with a stat line of 2 receptions for 29 yards and a touchdown.
Brown summed up his emotions from the debut by tweeting “Great team win baby.”
After playing for Homestead Senior High, and receiving All-Dade County honors, Brown attended Mars Hill University and Coffeyville Community College. Until he transferred to Division II School, Pittsburg State University in 2011.
Brown was drafted by the Cardinals in the third round, two rounds ahead of his former teammate turned high school rival Ed Stinson.
The former South Dade Buccaneer had a tackle in his debut for the Cardinals and is expected to get a bigger role in the defense after pro bowl defensive tackle Darnell Dockett went down for the season with a torn ACL.
Stinson went to play for the University of Alabama after being a four-star recruit coming out of high school and being a Super Prep All-American. He was redshirted for the 2009 season, was a backup for now NFL co-starting linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens Courtney Upshaw the following year, won a national championship with the team in 2011 and was the only Alabama defensive player to start all the games in the 2012 and 2013 seasons.
