Costa and Junqueria Celebrate

Bruno Junqueria and Raul Costa celebrate winning the Miami 500.

With a field stacked with over 65 cars in front over 20,000 fans in attendance, the Miami 500 proved to once again be a race fraught with drama and late-race twists.

Despite several impressively dominant and fast entries in the prototype category, it was the Ferrari of Raul Costa and IndyCar star Bruno Junqueira who took the overall victory at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Team Ginetta USA, which brought over entries to the FARA race, took second place when the duo of Tarso and Paulo Marques finished 21 seconds behind the eventual race winners.

Ginetta drivers Joao Goncalves, Luis Arruda, and Raulino Kreis, Jr. piloted their machine to third place overall.

At the drop of the green flag, it looked like William Hubbell and Eric Curran’s race to lose, as their 2013 Corvette Daytona Prototype showed immensely more speed than any other entries.

After starting the race on pole, their car led the way for most of the race.

The race saw its first, and longest (over 60 minutes) caution on lap two when Carlos and Michael Lira’s Daytona Prototype spun in turn three.

Unable to maneuver out of the way, the Ginetta of Elias Azevedo and Renato Benedetto plowed into the front of the Daytona Prototype head-on, destroying both cars and knocking both out of the race.

After the race began, cautions were limited.

The Porsche of Eric Johnson and NASCAR veteran Bill Lester showed speed early on, but an accident with a  slower car forced them out of the race.

Praga, which dominated last year’s race in the Slovakian team’s first American event, brought two cars to defend their title, but fell short in the end.

Defending race winner Danny van Dongen and co-driver Robert Tahb were in the hunt for a podium position late until suspension problems struck with under an hour left in the race.

Jose Armengol and Ernesto Bernal piloted their BMW to a class victory for TLM Motorsports, with Michael Camus, Miguel Aponde Rios, and Randy Mueller showing strong as well.

The Momo Personal Best Lap trophy went to Timothy Mincey Jr. who set the fast lap on Lap 50, commemorating Momo’s 50 years in racing.

18 year old racer Ethan Low was crowned the FARA Cup Champion for 2014 after the race, having tallied the most points of any driver over the series’ three main races this year (Homestead 200, Sunset 300, Miami 500).

Lozano Crowned F2000 Champ

In front of a packed crowd at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Santiago Lozano drove to a second place finish in the Formula LATAM F2000 race, securing the series championship for 2014.

Jose Carlos Sandoval wound up in victory lane for winning the race.

David Farias finished third in the race, with Camila Medina taking sixth on track.
