FHSAA’s latest round of initially proposed district athletic changes comes for track and field and cross country.
In cross country, three teams will make up the local contingent of independents, as Cutler Bay Academy, Everglades Prep (boys only), and Palm Glades Prep enter the sport.
In District 16-1A, Palmer Trinity and Princeton Christian will join Archimedean, Florida Christian, Island Christian, Marathon, Westwood Christian, Pinecrest Prep, and Riviera Prep.
District 16-2A features Coral Shores, Westminster Christian, and Keys Gate joining Ransom Everglades, St. Brendan, Booker T (girls only), Carrollton (girls only), Gulliver, Pace, MAST, Edison, Mater Lakes, LaSalle, and Key West.
Homestead and Southridge will compete in District 16-3A alongside Miami Springs, Sunset, Mourning, TERRA, Reagan, Doral, Goleman, Central, Carol City, Norland, Mater Academy, Miami Lakes, Belen (boys only), and Jackson.
Both Homestead and Southridge are expected to petition FHSAA to be moved up.
District 16-4A consists of Coral Reef and South Dade joining Lourdes (girls only), Varela, Southwest, Ferguson, Braddock, Killian, Palmetto, and South Miami.
Unlike cross country, there are no local teams in track and field who are competing as independents.
Instead, local teams begin in District 16-1A with Palmer Trinity joining Archimedean, Archbishop Carroll, and Florida Christian.
District 16-2A features Coral Shores and Westminster Christian alongside Gulliver, Booker T, St. Brendan, Pace, Edison, Carrollton (girls only), Key West, LaSalle, and Ransom Everglades.
Homestead and Southridge are slated to join District 16-3A with Belen (boys only), Doral, Goleman, Miami Lakes, Mater Academy, Carol City, Central, Norland, Northwestern, Sunset, Reagan, Mourning, Miami Springs, and North Miami Beach.
District 16-4A features Coral Reef and South Dade taking on Killian, Braddock, Ferguson, Palmetto, South Miami, Varela, and Southwest.
As with cross country, Southridge and Homestead are expected to petition to move up in the new track alignments.
