Coral Shores' girls lacrosse team turned what seemed to be the inevitable into history by defeating Palmer Trinity 16-2 in the District 32 championship game in front of a cheering home crowd.
The championship is the Lady Canes' fifth district crown in program history.
Utilizing the talents of two goalies in the game, CoralShores' defense shut down the Palmer Trinity offense, allowing for the Hurricanes' offense to exercise their powerful potential.
In net, Courtney Caputo made four saves while Carolyn Barrow tallied two.
Emma Upchurch was once again the star of the show for CoralShores, scoring six goals while Emily Thompson added five of her own.
Natalia Gonzalez scored twice while adding an assist with Mallory Eakin also tallying an assist.
Marissa Darrow, Delaney Hoag, and Mallory Hudson also got on the scoring sheet, scoring a goal each in the victory.
South Dade Baseball Hits Late Skid
After dominating their way through the regular season, South Dade baseball has hit a late-season losing streak, falling first 2-1 to Columbus, then being handed a shocking 10-inning 5-4 defeat from Westland Hialeah, eliminating the Bucs from the GMAC tournament after just the first round.
Alek Manoah was strong as usual, going 2-for-4 against Westland Hialeah with an RBI while Danny Vaughan
went 2-for-3 with two runs.
South Dade now sits at 20-3 on the season and remains ranked in most national high school baseball polls.
Palmer Trinity Topples Hurricanes
Palmer Trinity baseball defeated CoralShores in a 12-6 result, thanks to the dual-threat star of Blake Miller.
Miller earned the victory for the Falcons on the mound, throwing a complete game that included six strikeouts.
On the offensive side, Miller's contributions continued with three RBI on a 4-for-5 performance at the plate.
Justin Kross was also key, going 2-for-4 with a double and four RBI.
