Teddy Bears, balloons, and flowers adorn the sites where two teens violently lost their lives this past weekend in South Dade. Family and neighbors are stunned, as a man who hours before was playing with his son, was viciously gunned down in his own home. Dozens of cars lined up the street in front of South Dade Senior High as the rumor of retaliation led parents into a  frantic dash to fetch their children ahead of the release time.

A family morns the killing of their dog at the hands of a police officer.

A lone woman stood by the US 1 on Wednesday holding a sign pleading for the violence to end.

These are just some of the scenes that developed as a result of one of the bloodiest weeks in South Dade history.

Florida City Offers $5,000 for information on Noricia Talabert’s Killers

Tragedy rocked FloridaCity this weekend when a teen was killed during a late night shooting.

Noricia Talabert, 17, was driving friends home when she and two passengers were shot at from another car. Desperate to flee Talabert crashed into a large tree at a nearby vacant lot. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two passengers, Deanna Clayton, 17, and Daquantay Allen, 17, were also shot, but were transported to a hospital, and later in stable condition.

Little is known about the vehicle that shot the teens. According to investigators the teens were sitting in a red Nissan Sentra when they were ambushed by unknown subjects. Who they were and where they went is also unclear.

Talabert was a student at South Dade Senior High who had aspirations to go to college. Those dreams were violently cut short this weekend.

That injustice is not sitting well in the community.

Florida City Mayor Otis Wallace announced on Monday that the city will offer $5,000 to anyone who can provide information that leads to a conviction in this case. They will do this in cooperation with Miami-Dade Crimestoppers which can be reached at 305-471-TIPS.

Wallace told the News Leader that his police force has information suggesting many people saw the shooting.

“Poeple saw him, but no one is coming forward,” said Wallace.

The Mayor is hoping this extra incentive will lead to some credible information about the shooters.

The money being offered by the city is not tax payer money, but money raised by the FloridaCity  Foundation of whom the commission is the board. That foundation was created to give the city the flexibility to get things like this initiative done.

“She was a great student about to go to college,” Wallace added.

15-Year-Old Arrested in Drive-by Murder Case

A 15-year-old boy was arrested in connection to a drive-by shooting that ended the life of one South Dade teen, and seriously injured another over the weekend.

Dennis Lee Shelby Jr. was charged with first-degree murder on Monday. Last Saturday Rahkeem Brown, 16, lost his life and Tyvontae Robinson, 16, was seriously injured in the Leisure City drive by shooting.

Surveillance video shows a dark car drive up to a group of teens and begin to fire in the area of   Southwest 141st Ave and Southwest 280.  Brown did not survive the attack. As the driver made his get away, bullets continued to rain and that is when Robinson was shot.

He was rushed to KendallRegionalMedicalCenter and is expected to survive his injuries.

Brown was a freshman at HomesteadHigh School. A tribute has been set up in the spot of the shooting. A poster board with Brown’s name is surrounded by flowers and stuffed animals. Friends stood watch on the memorial from across the street this week. Periodically they would get up and straighten out the arrangements.

The friends were distraught and didn’t

want to comment to the News Leader, they just wanted to make sure the memorial stayed organized.

The Shootings and The Schools

Despite the arrest, the community is still shaken by the murders. Superintendent of Miami-Dade Schools Alberto Carvalho tweeted Sunday morning “We cannot allow callous and cowardly acts of gun violence to continue robbing us of our children. Something must be done. #EnoughIsEnough.”

On Tuesday parents rushed to South Dade Senior High to pick up their children amidst rumors of violent retaliation.

Also, next Friday’s Centennial Cup and the “Battle for Lucy Street” football game between Homestead and South Dade has been move from a 7pm kickoff to 3pm. We have not confirmed that the shootings are the reason the time change, but it was changed the Tuesday following the shooting.

A Father Gunned Down in His Own Home.

Hours after Renaldo Clayton posted a video on Instagram of his son playing, he was found brutally gunned down in his own home.

Around 9:30pm Monday his body was discovered in his home at the 1600 block of NW 1st Avenue in FloridaCity.

The 32-year-old was employed in FloridaCity’s City Parks Department.

His family told WSVN that they were glad his son wasn’t at home during the invasion.

“He was inside the house. From the looks of it somebody ambushed him,” the friend told the station.

The Gunman is at large as police search for clues.

A Family Dog is Shot Three Times by a Florida City Police Officer

Gillian Palacios was getting ready to take her son to school. She inadvertently left the door of her car opened in the middle of preparations. A Florida City Police Officer noticed the open door and went up to the front door to let them know.

As the door creaked open, an excited bulldog, Duchess, ran out towards the officer. In a graphic video making the rounds, the police officer unleashes multiple shots to the dog’s head.

Palacios and her daughter rush out in shock. Duchess, now bleeding profusely from her head, lays on the floor dying as her tail wags.

The daughter tries to render aid to the dog, only to see that it is futile.

That officer was put on administrative leave, as is the custom with police shootings, and the department is looking into the case.

An online petition is circling online, asking for the officer to be terminated.
