Palmetto Bay has a new pedestrian bridge.

Miami-Dade County leaders recently celebrated the opening of the Snowden Pedestrian Bridge.

The new 12-foot-wide prefabricated pedestrian bridge offers additional space for two-way pedestrian and cyclist traffic, improving safety and mobility along the Old Cutler Trail.

The project also includes enhanced lighting, improved signage and pavement markings, updated drainage systems and landscaping.

The project replaces the existing narrow walkway over the C-100 Canal, which had become inadequate for the volume of people using the Old Cutler Trail, according to Miami-Dade County information.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, District 8 Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins, District 7 Commissioner Raquel A. Regalado and Village of Palmetto Bay Mayor Karyn Cunningham were among the leaders who attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new bridge, according to county information.
