New Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Planned for Homestead

Homestead could soon have a new Catholic church building.

Plans are moving forward for a new Sacred Heart Catholic Church facility along South Homestead Boulevard. The project is intended to provide more space for the growing parish and address the needs of a community that has expanded significantly in recent years.

According to R.E. Chisholm Architects, the firm involved in designing the project, the proposed church would contain approximately 13,000 square feet and would be designed to fit alongside existing parish facilities, including Sacred Heart School.

South Dade County and the Homestead area have experienced significant residential development. The existing parish facilities were built for a smaller congregation and must accommodate the growing number of families moving into the area.

The proposed church would provide additional worship space and improve the facilities available for parish ministry.

Sacred Heart is not only a place of worship but also an institution with deep roots in the community. The parish was established in 1929, and its history in Homestead dates to Catholic services held in the area beginning in 1915.

The new project is also intended to improve the way the church operates alongside the school and other parish facilities. Architectural planning includes consideration of traffic circulation, accessibility, infrastructure and spaces used for church activities.

Modern construction would allow the parish to incorporate updated building standards and energy-efficient systems rather than continuing to rely entirely on older facilities.

The project remains part of Homestead's development process. A final construction schedule has not been confirmed.
