Miami-Dade leaders are making an effort to help the South Dade homeless and people who are facing major life struggles.
Miami-Dade County Commissioner Raquel Regalado visited Chapman Partnership South in Homestead on Nov. 17 to raise awareness about homelessness in South Dade among families and seniors.
Regalado and her team engaged directly with the community by serving meals to families at the facility. The goal was to show the immediate needs of those experiencing homelessness and the importance of community support, especially as the holiday season approaches.
Chapman Partnership is currently providing services to more than 700 adults and 264 children.
After serving meals, Regalado led a roundtable discussion with municipal mayors, including Cutler Bay Mayor Tim Meerbott and Homestead Mayor Steve Losner. The conversation focused on proactive strategies and available resources for addressing seasonal homelessness.
The Homeless Trust provided attendees with a toolkit and resources to help support vulnerable populations in their communities, along with an update on current homelessness trends in Miami-Dade County.
"As we enter the holiday season, it's crucial that we come together as a community to support our most vulnerable residents," Regalado said.
"This event is an opportunity to not only provide direct assistance, but also to collaborate on effective, long-term solutions to homelessness in South Miami-Dade County."
During the event, Regalado presented a check to Chapman Partnership South as part of the Give Miami Day initiative, supporting the organization’s work to provide comprehensive services to families experiencing homelessness.
“The holidays are a perfect time to recognize the many organizations within the homeless continuum of care who uplift the least, last, lost and forgotten in our community,” said Ron Book, chairman of the Homeless Trust.
“Together with our private sector partner, Chapman Partnership and other nonprofits, we are committed to working alongside local leaders and residents in the south Miami-Dade community to effectively address and end homelessness.”
