The topic of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the focus of many discussions and the current and future impact on different aspects of life are difficult to measure. Indeed, the Miami-Dade College School of Engineering and Technology website provides this, “According to Grand View Research, the global AI market was valued at $196.63 billion in 2023 and is projected to grow to 1,339.1 billion by 2030, driving an excellent job outlook for careers in artificial intelligence (ZipRecruiter). According to Salary.com, the national average salary for AI Developers is $108,348 annually, with typical salaries ranging from $95,961 to $121,399.” (https://www.mdc.edu/ appliedaibs/).
As with any new or advancing technology, individuals interested in the field want to learn more. That opportunity will be available on Wednesday, September 4th, 2024. A recent press release provides details: “In September, Miami Dade College's (MDC) School of Engineering and Technology (EnTec) will offer two free events open to the public to learn about acquiring a degree in artificial intelligence (AI) and the latest trends and career opportunities in cloud computing. MDC is the first institution in Florida and one of the first in the country to offer a Bachelor of Science in Applied Artificial Intelligence.”
The in-person session will be held Wednesday, September 4th, 5:30 – 7:00 pm, on MDC Kendall Campus in the McCarthy Hall Auditorium, Building 6, Room 6120, 11011 SW 104th St.
“This session will cover everything you need to know, including eligibility, curriculum details, support resources, industry certifications, recommended course sequences, and much more. Attendees will also learn about scholarship opportunities, the application process, and deadlines.”

“Led by Ernesto Milian, VP of Technology at Thrive, and Chris Martinez, VP of Software Engineering at Allurion Technologies, this webinar will provide insights into the current job market, salary trends, and in-demand positions in cloud computing. Participants will discover how MDC's curriculum is evolving to meet industry needs and the importance of certifications in areas such as Developer, DevOps, Data Analytics, and Cybersecurity for enhancing career prospects. There will also be a discussion about the rapid shift in the IT industry due to Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI. Registering at MDC's EnTec empowers students to pursue dynamic careers in engineering and technology, providing unmatched opportunities in high-demand fields. Their vision is to deliver exceptional curriculum, surpassing market demands, ensuring students thrive in the 21st century.”
Although these two topics may be uppermost on some minds, there are other fields as well. “MDC's School of Engineering and Technology has designed its programs and curricula to provide students with exciting opportunities, the highest quality education, and a variety of options to achieve success. With more than 30 degrees to choose from, our students are able to find an education that best suits their needs. With input from industry partners including Florida Power & Light, Tesla, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, Cisco, and Siemens, our courses deliver the education that the nation’s top employers are looking for.”
Bachelor of Science degrees are offered in Applied Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Data Analytics, Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology (BS – ECET), and Information Systems Technology. Although some of the degrees are only available at North Campus, another element of the BS in Information Systems is: “As a benefit of the Bachelor of Science in Information Systems Technology, MDC has an agreement in place that gives graduates the opportunity to advance to a Master's degree and possibly complete it in one year:
- Florida International University: Master of Science in Information Technology
- Florida Atlantic University: Master of Science in Information Technology and Management
- Northeastern University: Master of Science in Information Systems
- Northeastern University: Master of Science in Computer Science”
