Autism Acceptance Month

Homestead will honor individuals and families affected by autism this month.

During its recent meeting, the City Council approved a resolution proclaiming April as National Autism Acceptance Month and April 2 as World Autism Awareness Day.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) affects millions of people across the United States, including residents of Homestead. The observances aim to increase public understanding, promote acceptance and inclusion, and recognize the unique strengths and contributions of individuals on the autism spectrum.

Communities nationwide mark these observances with educational initiatives, advocacy efforts, and public demonstrations of support that highlight accessibility, inclusion, and respect for individuals with autism and their families.

The Homestead resolution supports an initiative led by Miami-Dade County Commissioner Raquel Regalado, encouraging municipalities throughout the county to participate by flying the Autism Acceptance Flag as a visible symbol of unity and awareness.

In line with this initiative, the resolution directs the city manager to fly the flag at City Hall beginning April 2, in recognition of World Autism Awareness Day, and to continue flying it throughout National Autism Acceptance Month.
