Baptist Health’s Homestead Hospital has received a major boost for its planned expansion.
The Baptist Health Foundation announced it has secured a $1 million grant from the Ocean Reef Community Foundation to support the hospital’s Clinical Expansion Fund.
The funding will help build a four-story, 134,000-square-foot tower at the Homestead facility. The expansion is expected to increase inpatient capacity, expand surgical and diagnostic services, and enhance the overall patient experience.
The Ocean Reef Community Foundation will be recognized with a naming opportunity at the hospital at a later date.
“We are grateful for the generosity of the Ocean Reef Community Foundation and for their partnership in this important initiative,” said Alex Villoch, CEO of Baptist Health Foundation.
“They understand Homestead Hospital’s vital need for increased capacity. This grant will help us provide extraordinary patient care in South Dade and the Upper Keys for generations to come,” Villoch said.
Homestead and South Miami-Dade County are experiencing significant population growth, with an estimated 50,000 new residents expected in the coming years. The increase is placing added pressure on the region’s healthcare system.
Homestead Hospital serves as a critical healthcare provider for both South Dade and the Florida Keys, where access to advanced medical services can be limited. The hospital reports nearly 10,000 admissions and more than 3,000 surgeries annually and operates at consistently high levels.
“Homestead Hospital’s much-needed expansion will increase healthcare access while improving comfort, convenience and quality of care,” said Richard Weinstein, president and chief operating officer of the Ocean Reef Community Foundation.
Ken Spell, CEO of Homestead Hospital, said the grant will have a lasting impact.
“This support helps advance our vision to expand services, recruit top physicians and enhance care for our growing community,” Spell said.
