State Representative Holly Raschein received no opposition for the District 120 seat, earning her two more years in office. "Because I'm running unopposed, I've already been elected and won't appear on the ballot," said Raschein in an exclusive South Dade News Leader interview. "I'm sort of surprised given the makeup of my district but it is an honor to be able to serve the citizens of District 120 for another two years."
Raschein was first elected in 2012.
During this year's legislative session, Raschein championed a bill that delays the implementation of insurance rate increases for property owners. She also called for Congress to delay all rate increases resulting from passage of the Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act until the completion of an affordability study that would offer protections not just for primary homeowners, but for commercial properties and second homes.
Raschein says her biggest accomplishment was securing money for the Florida Keys Wastewater District. "I really was proud to get that done for the residents of the Keys."
For her future in office, Raschein says helping our National Parks is near the top of her list.
"A big part of my district is the Everglades and I want to make sure we get the money we equally deserve."
