An Islamorada residence designed by the late Sam Murray and his partner, Architect J. Robert Barnes, is gracing the cover of the latest copy of Florida Architecture Magazine.
The 86th edition cover features a photograph of the living room of the Rodberg home taken by George Cott.
The building, a tribute to early and mid-twentieth century Keys architecture mixing light frame construction and Southern Colonial Design, is a testament to the friends’ enduring partnership and a tribute to one of the last collaborations they would make before Murray’s passing.
Murray, an Architect and Mechanical Engineer originally licensed in South Africa, joined Barnes’ firm in 1988 after moving to South Florida.
Basing the company in Homestead, their collaborations stretched out over 25 years.
Together the longtime South Miami Dade and Florida Keys residents brought several design ideas to fruition which included many Keys and other South Florida residences like the Rodberg home.
However, this particular achievement presents itself at a meaningful time for the firm and Murray’s family as they marked the one year anniversary of Murray’s passing on September 13th.
As a husband, father of two, and a cornerstone of the firm, Murray has been sorely missed over the last year by family, friends, and clients alike.
This honor recognizes his decades long architectural achievements in South Florida
