The College of the Florida Keys is inviting students, parents and adults considering a return to school to explore their educational options during its first Affordability Week, scheduled for October 19–23.
The weeklong initiative will connect Monroe County residents with college faculty, staff and financial aid advisors to discuss scholarships, grants, career training and the costs associated with pursuing higher education.
“Many dreams get put on hold because someone doesn't think they can afford higher education, whether it's in an academic field or workforce education,” said Dr. Brittany Snyder, CFK's interim president.
The college hopes to address those concerns by offering free workshops, individual appointments and assistance with completing the 2027–28 Free Application for Federal Student Aid, commonly known as the FAFSA.
Activities begin Monday, October 19, with a virtual academic showcase from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Participants will hear from faculty, current students and alumni about degree programs, career opportunities and campus life. Attendees will also receive a code waiving the college's $30 application fee.
On Tuesday, October 20, the CFK Upper Keys Center in Key Largo will host a Ready, Set, College workshop from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., presented in partnership with the Key Largo Chamber of Commerce. A similar workshop will take place Wednesday, October 21, at the college's Middle Keys Center in Marathon.
Both workshops will address college application and scholarship essays, financial aid opportunities and important deadlines.
Students and families can also schedule individual appointments with the college's financial aid team in Key West or Key Largo.
CFK offers associate and bachelor's degrees as well as certificates and workforce training programs, providing options for students entering college and adults pursuing new careers.
All Affordability Week events are free and open to Monroe County residents.
