Students planning to attend the College of the Florida Keys this spring have until Nov. 1 to apply for scholarships that could help cover the cost of their education.

Applications are open to new and returning students. To qualify, students must be admitted to the college and registered for spring 2027 classes. They may apply for every scholarship whose requirements they meet.

The spring semester begins Jan. 8.

“Cost should never be a barrier to education,” Dr. Lana Gaspari, CFK’s vice president of advancement and executive director of the CFK Foundation, said in the college’s announcement.

The new application period follows a scholarship cycle in which the foundation awarded $229,252 to 121 students. Recipients and donors recently gathered at the Tennessee Williams Theatre on CFK’s Key West campus for the foundation’s annual Scholarship Social.

The student experiences shared by the college illustrate how that assistance supports people pursuing different careers.

Lauryn Robinson moved from Nebraska to study marine resources and pursue her interest in protecting coral reefs. She is working toward a Bachelor of Science in Marine Resource Management and serves as vice president of the college’s Aquaculture Society.

“These scholarships let me focus on the reef instead of worrying about how to pay for school,” Robinson said in remarks shared by CFK.

Nursing student Dardell Morin described wanting to provide the compassion she learned to value through her own experiences. Markens Dorestant, a Monroe County sheriff’s deputy pursuing an Associate in Science in Criminal Justice Technology, spoke about continuing his education while serving the community that welcomed him after he moved from Haiti.

For prospective applicants, the next step is to review individual scholarship requirements and complete the application process before the deadline.
