A new private aviation campus is coming to Miami-Dade County following an early October groundbreaking at Miami Executive Airport.
Ocean Aviation, supported by Kennedy Lewis Investment Management, has begun work on a development representing a $67 million capital commitment.
The project will transform approximately 40 acres of previously undeveloped airport property into a private aviation campus featuring up to 400,000 square feet of hangar space in communal and private configurations, a premium terminal and a fuel farm.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said the investment represents an important step for the airport and the surrounding community.
“Today's groundbreaking marks a significant milestone in the growth of Miami Executive Airport and South Miami-Dade,” Mayor Levine Cava said.
“With this $67 million investment, 40 acres of previously undeveloped airport land will become a state-of-the-art aviation campus that brings even more travelers and businesses to our community.”
According to the county, the expansion is expected to generate approximately 2,900 construction jobs and 250 permanent positions.
Ocean Aviation was established in 2024 through a 40-year ground lease covering 40 acres at Miami Executive Airport. The agreement provided the opportunity to develop a major new fixed-base operator facility serving private aircraft and their passengers.
The company has since expanded its regional operations through the acquisition of National Jets at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. National Jets will continue operating under its existing name.
Together, the Miami Executive and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood locations will form a dual-airport network serving private aviation customers throughout the region.
Ocean Aviation Executive Chairman Romain Grosjean, who previously competed in Formula 1 and IndyCar racing, described the groundbreaking as a milestone for the company.
“Through my career in Formula 1 and Indycar, I've had the chance to work with some of the most brilliant people, and what I've learned is that every detail matters, even the smallest ones,” Grosjean said.
He said the company intends to establish new standards for private aviation through service, design and operational improvements.
The campus is being developed to serve aircraft owners, corporate flight departments and international private aviation operators in the Miami metropolitan area.
Beyond the new hangars and terminal, the project includes a 32,000-square-foot common-use taxi lane and a common-use ramp serving U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Those improvements are intended to support aircraft movement and international general aviation operations.
The development also includes plans to relocate the Wings Over Miami Air Museum.
For South Miami-Dade, the project represents a substantial investment in airport infrastructure, with county officials pointing to the potential employment and business opportunities associated with construction and future operations.
