The first play of the game for Everglades Prep appeared to be a sign of things to come.

A bad snap resulted in a 22-yard loss to start the game for the Panthers who trailed Gulliver Prep 21-0 through three quarters before falling

“We started off bad and the penalties really hurt us,” head coach Tony Bing said. “That’s basically what really defined our game. If we correct the mistakes and the penalties, we win, period.”

Everglades Prep (0-2) entered the season with high expectations after their first playoff appearance in school history. Despite the disappointing start, Bing remains confident.

“It’s just two games,” Bing said. “I aint worried about nothing. I’ll never be worried about nothing. I’m confident period. If I’m confident, they have to be confident. It starts from the top. It trickles down. So if I’m confident, they’ve got to be confident and that’s how we’re going to roll with it the rest of the season. We’re just 0-2. We’ll make up for it.”

Morris Hall tossed a 1-yard touchdown pass to David Jester putting the Panthers on the scoreboard. Sirr Daye’s 11-yard touchdown run cut the deficit to 28-12 with 6:38 left in the game, but were unable to close the gap any further.

Hall completed 12 of 23 passes for 137 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions. His top target was Kavon Holmes, who had five catches for 62 yards. Daye led the ground game with 72 yards on 13 carries.

Gulliver Prep (1-1) used a balanced offensive attack to control the game finishing with 191 yards passing and 175 yards rushing.

Everglades Prep looks to get back on track against 4A title contender University School (2-0) on Friday.
