The Coral Shores football team received a surprise at Wednesday’s practice.

The Miami Dolphins donated football equipment to the team as part of the organization’s long-term rebuilding efforts in the Keys in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma last year.

“This is awesome,” senior Robbie Prozek said. “This is like Christmas. We were not expecting this.”

The Dolphins, along with Baptist Health South Florida, donated cleats, practice jerseys and pants, t-shirts, shoulder pads, knee and hip pads, belts, down markers, goal post wraps, and a scoreboard.

“It means to a lot to our kids simply because of the hurricane last year and a lot of kids lost a lot of things,” Coral Shores head coach Alphonso Bryant said. “What a joy it is to have the Dolphins come out just to come back in our community and give back. That speaks volumes to our kids and we’re elated.”

The Dolphins also made stops at Key West and Marathon earlier in the day.

“It’s because the Keys are such a big part of South Florida,” Dolphins youth programs ambassador Twan Russell said. “We consider this our home. Our players have a rich tradition and heritage here.”
