When the Reagan Bison wanted to run, they struggled to find openings and when they wanted to pass, it was virtually impossible.

Coral Reef held Reagan to 88 yards of total offense, Christopher Perez and Jorge Linares intercepted passes, and the Barracudas won 10-0 in the season opener.

“Phenomenal,” Perez said. “We played as a team, came together, and dominated like we should.”

After Daniel Henderson made a 33-yard field goal for a 10-0 lead early in the fourth quarter, the Bison drove down the field, but were stopped when Perez came down with a leaping interception down field sealing the victory and the shutout.

“Zip them out, it feels amazing,” Perez said.

Reagan quarterback Alex Recalde was held to just 1-for-10 passing for seven yards and two picks while the running game managed 81 yards on 22 carries.

“Over the course of the week we watched a ton of film, the guys were lined up properly, and I didn’t have to do any coaching today,” head coach Joseph Petisco said. “It was amazing. We tackled really well. There were very few missed tackles. Even in plays where it looked like maybe they would get outside we closed really, really quickly. It’s fun to be a dog and come out and beat somebody.”

Quarterback Andres Ruiz-Sanchez paced the Barracudas’ ground attack with 52 yards on 14 carries including a two-yard touchdown plunge in the second quarter. Keyno Dean added 45 yards on seven carries while Daniel Ramirez (5-25), Christian Mojica (4-21), and Milton Calafell (4-20) also provided steady production.

Ruiz-Sanchez’s touchdown was setup by a 67-yard pass from backup Ryan Garcia to Calafell down to the 2-yard line.

“If he wasn’t 5-2, he would have scored,” Petisco said.

Henderson tacked on the extra point and his field goal with 8:28 left in the game gave the Barracudas some breathing room.

“He’s the man,” Petisco said. “We joke around and whenever I ask the whole team, ‘Who’s your favorite player’ and they all say Daniel Henderson. It’s invaluable at this level to have a kicker like that.”
