Just this past week the Senate Democrats proposed another “Assault Weapons Ban of 2019”, to differentiate it from the one they had from 1994-2004. This is one definition of insanity. According to the DOJ under gun hater Bill Clinton, there was little to no impact on crimes and gun deaths. Other studies since have come up with similar results.

John Lott and Gary Kleck, both Ph.d’s have many studies and have written books relating to crime and firearms. Emotions are good to have, but you should not let them rule your life. If you do, you will not have a happy life. The Senators sponsoring this bill call these firearms “military style assault weapons”. Absurd! This is the same as calling a Ford Escort a race car.

Using these vague terms means absolutely nothing. These words are used to instill fear in the uninformed population. Assault weapons are generally select fire weapons; ones that can either fire one bullet with the pull of the trigger (semi-automatic), or with the flick of a lever, fully automatic (fire multiple bullets until the person stops pulling the trigger). The AR-15 was produced as a semi-automatic rifle for the civilian market before it was sold to the military for use in Vietnam. The AR-15 is used by millions of persons across America for varmint control, target practice, self-defense, and with caliber changes, taking mid-sized game.

Long guns/rifles are used to kill people at a lesser rate than hand and feet are. Another provision of the bill bans the possession and use of magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals recently declared California’s magazine ban of more than 10 rounds. Isn’t Finestein from California? Is she paying attention to what happens in her state? They also want to ban adjustable or folding stocks. Adjustable stocks allow the proper fit for a shooter, as opposed to a one size fits most. That is also why many handgun manufactures put several different sizes of backstraps in with newer handguns.

Well over 95 percent of the mass shootings have occurred in gun free zones. Approximately a dozen states have begun letting faculty and staff carry firearms on school property to prevent future mass killings in schools. This is a start but we need to go further by getting rid of gun free zones, national reciprocity and constitutional carry. Over 2.5 million law abiding concealed carry citizens in Texas and Florida commit less gun violations than the police in those states. This bill will probably go no where, but to even have a sitting senator propose this type of bill is demeaning and harmful to law-abiding

citizens of America.
