I want to compliment and congratulate the City Manager, the Mayor and Council members of Homestead for their decision to send out for bid consideration of removing the falling apart baseball stadium. As I understand, it would cost over $1,500,000 just to repair the roof, and an unknown amount in repairing and fixing up the old building plus about $500,000 just to maintain it every year.

To tear it down would save the taxpayers of Homestead between $450,000 to $500,000 per year in just maintaining it. The savings would be put to better use in hiring more police officers to protect the citizens of our community. I estimate that if this had been done years ago, the city could have saved between $7,000,000 to $10,000,000 in maintenance costs alone for the citizens of this community.

I, for one, will not make any character assassination of any member of the staff or city council members that are trying on our behalf, to obtain information to make a rightful decision. I will wait until the city gets back the information needed to make any intelligent decision affecting our community. Then and only then, I, with other members of our community will work with the manager, mayor and city council members for what we think is the best thing to do for Homestead in regard to the stadium and urge the citizens not to fall prey to undocumented statements from anyone who might have an ax to grind without knowing the real facts.

Remember, look on the other side of the fence before you jump over it.

Nicholas R. Sincore, Homestead
