Help!  I’m going to fall!   Well maybe not fall but I’m going to Fall!  As you read this, I am up north.  Not north Florida.  Really up North.

Thursday evening, I flew to my friend Nancy’s home in Frederick, Maryland.  Friday, we got up and drove to our hometown of Tamaqua, Pa.  Well actually, I am staying in Brockton which is a tiny patch next to Tamaqua where my brother and sister-in-law live.  Yes, they are Brocktonians and I am up north for the season I long for and miss the most…Fall.

Daytime temperatures in the high 60’s or low 70’s.  Nighttime temps in the 40’s and 50’s.  Wind blowing and trees beginning to turn.  That special smell in the air…the smell of Fall.  Festivals.  The Tamaqua Heritage Days.  Amish Country.

Another big reason I am up in Pa. is to celebrate something I did 45 years ago.  I graduated high school and will attend my 45th class reunion on Saturday, October 7th.  One of classmates, Lorraine, is holding the reunion at her huge home.  I cherish these reunions.  These are the people who helped to make me who I am today.  We have great memories and I look forward to it.  No airs, no dressing up.  Just a bunch of us getting together and renewing old friendships.  I’m sure I’ll hear the words, “Remember when we did…”  I’m hoping for a lot of laughter.

Next Tuesday I have a lunch planned at the old train station with two of my cousins, Daryl and Joanne.  Now I don’t think I’ve seen Joanne in 45 years so this will be so much fun!

Two weeks ago, I had a hard decision to make.  Due to Hurricane Irma and all the unforeseen expenses that she caused, I thought I should cancel my trip.  I thought long and hard about it and frankly, after all the stress Irma caused and dealing with the very emotional situation with my Mom, I knew I needed to escape so I decided that I was worth it and I needed to go.  Mr. Wonderful will stay home as he has Canes games and some work to do so it will be a solo trip.  I’m hoping I can just destress and relax.

The nice part about this trip is that my brother, Jay, has taken a week’s vacation to spend time with me.  His wife, Rosalie is retired and she is more like my sister than my sister-in-law so I know I am going to chill and have fun.  I must tell you I have my brother trained.  When working, he drives a lot to different areas.  Every now and then I will get a text message with a picture of a fabric store.  Jay knows I love to sew so he has been scouting out the new stores in Amish country for me and he will take me to as many as I want to go.  The best part is that this time I am flying Southwest so I can bring an extra suitcase home with me if needed.  I just have to hide it from Mr. Wonderful!  Yes…I know a week ago I was saying how I needed to clean out my fabric.  Oh well…guess I’m not doing too great at that task!  I promise I’ll clean out when I come home and reorganize.  I’ll donate more fabric to my friend, Ellen, who is starting the sewing class at her school.

By the way, as of this printing, we have four sewing machines donated for Ellen’s students.  Last week I told you about how she was bringing a lost art back and was teaching sewing to 15 students, including one boy who wants to sew with his grandma.  We need several more and hope more donations will come in.  I have a lot of fabric for the kids to sew.

I look forward to Friday the 13th.  For the second time in 45 years, I will be spending my birthday in Pa. with my family there.  13 is my lucky number so I have no fears about Friday the 13th.

Going on vacation is hectic as it takes me hours to get my work to where I feel comfortable leaving it.  I worked last Saturday to try and get my head above water.   I know when I come back I will need to play “catch up” but you know what?  It is so worth it to relax during those 10 days…8 if you allow the two travel days.

Stay tuned next week and I will update you as to the fun I will be having in Pa.  Sleeping with the windows cracked open and the covers pulled up.  Going outside wearing a sweater or jacket.  Fresh apple cider straight from the farms and bought at the farmer’s market.  Oh, I’m Falling!
