Florida Farm Bureau President John L. Hoblick issued this statement following last week’s action by the U.S. House of Representatives:

“Farmers and ranchers across Florida have uniformly expressed their disappointment that the U.S. House of Representatives denied the adoption of the 2018 Farm Bill by a vote of 198-213.

In the current period of depressed prices, farm families face additional stresses while working to maintain production and conserve natural resources. Crop insurance and stabilizing farm programs included in the bill are crucial for their economic survival.

Most of the funding in the Farm Bill is earmarked for food support, including the Supplemental Food Assistance Program (SNAP). Such programs provide vital nutrition for food-insecure households across the nation.

Florida Farm Bureau will continue to remind our lawmakers that the 2018 Farm Bill is too important to delay its approval any longer. We urge the House to adopt H.R. 2.”
