This past week I notice a few things around town. Some things are funny, some are nice and others are inspirational.

Have you seen the commercial for Domino’s Pizza where the Domino’s crew comes and fixes potholes in your town as they do not want your pizza ruined on the drive home? Have you driven west on NW 15th Street (Kings Highway) from US 1 recently? It seems that some locals want there pizza to get home in one piece and they are getting tired of the pot holes and terrible patching of the potholes in the road approaching and around the cul-de-sac on 15th. The circle has now been adorned with a new sign.

“DOMINO’S FIX THIS POT HOLE!”

Now wait...someone evidently did try to fix some parts of it but you can get whiplash driving over the main one for the lumpy condition they left it in. I don’t know if the road is the responsibility of the city of the county but whoever it is, they should take a serious look at the road surface around that circle. I think Domino’s May embarrass them and come and fix it properly. Too funny.

Driving to church on Sunday I drove by the UHaul place on Flagler Avenue...coming east on 11th Street I believe. What a nice notion that even with all the trucks and rentals there, someone has placed a raised bed of landscaping that looks really nice. It made me smile. Thank you for taking the time and effort to make your property look nice.

I noticed that the Waffle House in Florida City is going up quickly. You didn’t know we were getting a Waffle House. Yep...right by Texas Roadhouse. Now if only we could get a Hobby Lobby there would be many happy women in this town! Come on guys...want to get the women out of the house so you can watch TV in peace? Get us a Hobby Lobby. That would be nice.

Finally, I had a two very inspirational moments this week that just reassured me (not that I needed reassurance) that God indeed is in charge of the way things happen.

Sunday as I sang at 8 am mass at Sacred Heart, a homeless man came in. The lady in the first pew welcomed him in. During the mass, the man would speak out of turn and the woman kindly told him to be quiet. She was not appalled by the man or his physical condition but rather, I think I saw Jesus in her caring eyes.

It was inspirational.

Last Saturday I had a yard sale at my daughter’s in Cutler Bay. After the sale she sat a few things on the curb for people to pick up if they wanted the item. One of those things was a Britax infant car seat. Now if you know anything about car seats, they are not cheap! I was pulling out and decided that I was going to take the car seat as I felt I could find someone who needed it.

Sunday after church I asked all my friends if they knew anyone who needed a car seat. They all said no so I went on and went to do my shopping at Winn Dixie. As I walked to my truck with my groceries, I saw a young Hispanic family get out of their car with a newborn baby. Mama was carrying the baby and dad had a tote bag with him that I later found out was filled with comings. I knew Mom was holding the baby in the car and the baby was not in a car seat. I went over to them and asked if they needed a car seat. I could tell they were worried so I quickly told them I had a very good car seat. Mother asked how much and I explained it was a gift. Mom cried and explained that they were taking their change into Winn Dixie to see how much they could come up with for the newborn. Bingo! This was meant to be.

I happily gave them the car seat and both parents thanked God for the gift.

Yeah....He is always leading me and trying to keep me out of trouble.

What an inspirational day!

Things around town are changing and many things are changing for the good. Funny, nice and thank goodness...inspirational.
