Anita Ruth Powell, age 95, of Homestead, Florida went home to be with the Lord on April 18, 2019.

She was born in Estherville, Iowa on March 10, 1924. Growing up she attended the Nazarene church, becoming a Christian as her grandfather shared the gospel.

Anita was the devoted wife of Luke Powell, who was a decorated veteran of WWII. They were married for nearly sixty years, having met in Miami and

married on June 21, 1941.

Anita and Luke had three daughters - Judith Anne now Mrs. H.E. (Gene) Mendheim of Homestead, Joyce Ruth, now widowed but formerly Mrs. Jerry Horne of Miami, and Ellen Rae who preceded her parents in death by an auto accident in 1971.

She was a wonderful, caring mother and grandmother, a flower and plant enthusiast, and a gifted seamstress. We will miss her dearly.

Anita is blessed with four grandsons, Michael and Steven Mendheim and David and Philip Horne and one granddaughter, Ruth Ellen (Mendheim) Garner, plus seven great-grandchildren, Jesse Mendheim, Emily, Carly, Katie and Dori Mendheim and Jason and Jonathan Garner, and two great-great grandsons, Jase and Jackson Garner.

Anita was dedicated and faithful to her Lord Jesus Christ, humbly serving from 1945 at First Baptist Church of Miami, continuing at First Baptist Church of Placid Lakes from 1978 till 2003 and serving at First Baptist of Homestead until becoming homebound by failing health in 2013.

She lived her life verse, Matthew 6:33.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 27th, 3:00pm, atFirst Baptist Church of Homestead with Pastor Howard Harden officiating. A reception will follow.
