Thomas Mason Alger passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, October 8, 2017 at an assisted living facility in Houston, Texas. Tom recently celebrated his 81st birthday with two of his favorite things, singing and ice cream.

Tom was born October 3, 1936 in Brockton, Massachusetts and grew up in West Bridgewater, Massachusetts and Coral Gables, Florida.

As a young man, Tom was handsome and charismatic. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and excelled academically. After graduating from Phillips Exeter Academy, Exeter, New Hampshire, he was accepted to a five year program at Cornell University in which he earned a Bachelor of Agricultural Engineering in 1959.  He went on to earn a Masters Degree from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business, Palo Alto, California.

He was married once, to Johanna Alice Fromm of Hamburg, Wisconsin. They met while both were students at Cornell. In 1961 Tom and Jo had one child, Juliana. Juli and her husband Randy Fournier live in Sugar Land, Texas. Tom is also survived by two granddaughters, Kylie Fournier of San Jose, California, and Danielle Fournier, of Sugar Land, Texas. His loving brother Richard lives in Homestead, Florida.

Tom was stricken with severe mental illness shortly after finishing his schooling. At the time of the onset, mental illness was not well understood by the medical community and there was no effective medicine or treatment. He spent the remainder of his life under doctors' care and was stable in recent years with present day medicines.
