Betty Thompson Scronce, age 82, of Crouse, North Carolina, passed away on October 6, 2017, after a brave battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

She is survived by her loving spouse of 10 years, Bob Scronce; two daughters, Rita (James) Nolting of Frankfort, Illinois; Billie K.  (Stanley) Luttrell of Crete, Illinois; son, Maury Thompson of Homestead, Florida; step-daughter, Shari (Larry) Richard of Crouse, North Carolina; sister, Billie (Nick) Brooks, Homestead, FL; and several grandchildren, step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Willard Thompson; two sisters, Helen Ledbetter and Ruby Pease; and a grandson, F. Michael Catanzarite.

Born in 1935, in Crouse, North Carolina, the daughter of the late W. Conley and Gertrude Tutherow Heafner, Betty resided in Newton Township, Pennsylvania, for many years, before retiring to Homestead, Florida, with her first husband.

After his death, she remarried and returned to her roots in Crouse, North Carolina.  A lifelong housewife, Betty was known for her delicious baked goods,

creative crafts and tireless energy, before Parkinson’s progressed and robbed her of her energy and movement.

A past Worthy Matron and member of the Juanita Order Chapter 8, Order of the Eastern Star and member of the Red Hat Society, Betty was also a

long-time member of the former Schultzville United Methodist Church and more recently, Bethphage Lutheran Church in Lincolnton, NC.  She loved to travel, enjoyed her doll and Beanie Baby collections and, in her younger years, maintained a lovely garden and helped on the farm.

The family would like to especially thank the staff of the The Brian Center, Lincolnton, NC, for their attentive and kind care during Betty’s last days.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018, also or to Bethphage Lutheran Church, 4060 NC-182, Lincolnton, NC 28092.

The family received friends at a viewing on Saturday, 10/7/2017 at Warlick Funeral Home, 125 Dave Warlick Drive, Lincolnton, NC 28092.

Graveside services and internment will be conducted on Thursday, 10/12/2017 at 10:00 AM by the Rev. Clarence Sifford at Newton Cemetery, Newton Township, PA., with arrangements handled by Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St, Clarks Summit, PA. 18411.
