Mosley Sever Barker, age 97, of Homestead, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2017
surrounded by her loved ones.
Mosley was born April 12, 1920, in Lamont, Florida, the daughter of Mose Sever and Margaret Beaty.
Mosley, known as Momo by friends and family, moved to Florida City in 1923 with her father and three sisters after the death of her mother. She graduated from Homestead Senior High in 1938 and went on to attend business school.
While helping her father in his general store in Florida City she met her husband, John Barker Sr. It was the beginning of a 60 year loving
marriage until his death in 2005.
Mosley was a legend in her own right. Not only was she an amazing mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was an accomplished business woman. She was the first woman bank director in Homestead and successful real estate agent and broker/manager of Keyes company. She also co-owned the Lobby and Bargain Bazaar.
Mosley enjoyed golf, bridge, gardening, fishing, and was known for her fabulous cooking.
Preceded in death is her husband John R. Barker Sr., son John Barker Jr., sisters Elizabeth Neil, Melba Carpenter and Jeanette Sullivan and
son-in-law Ed Glenn.
Surviving family members include daughters Jade Smith and Holly Glenn, grandchildren Leslie Sanders (Jeff), Travis Glenn, Tyler Glenn (Julianna) and 6 great-grandchildren.
Following her wishes we will be having a private service with a celebration of life at a later date.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Swankridge Assisted Living Facility where Momo lived the past two years.
