An 8-year-old Homestead girl who was shot by her father last week has died, according to news reports.

John Presnar, a U.S. Coast Guard serviceman based in Miami Beach, shot McKenna Presnar along with his 7-year-old son and wife Dec. 16, at their home on SW 242 Lane, Homestead.

The shooting incident began as an argument between the 44-year-old father and his wife, Gretchen, 39, and ended in a fatal murder-suicide.

Investigators said Gretchen told her mother to run out of the house and call for help. When officers first got to the scene, Gretchen and her son were already dead.

Miami-Dade police said Presnar shot his family before turning the gun on himself.

McKenna was also found shot, but clinging to life. She was transported to Nicklaus Children's Hospital in critical condition.

She passed away Christmas morning.

Presnar was an active member of the U.S. Coast Guard, according to a statement from the Coast Guard.
