Its been almost two years since Dots and Speedy, our two ex-Sulcata tortises, were stolen from my business, Phil’s Berry Farm.

Their value was for breeding purposes in the pet industry so I knew they would be taken care of. However, on October 23, 2018, thieves sank to a new low as Stormy, one of our pet goats was taken from its pen while my wife and I were on vacation.

One day after our return on November 8th, the remaining goat, Misty was snatched as well. Misty was raised from a “kid” almost 5 years ago. Together both goats were a hit with children who visited our place.

What disgusts me most of all is the terrible thoughts on their fate and why they were stolen.

Now, its difficult seeing children come to our place asking, “Where’s Misty and Stormy.”

Our little zoo is down to three chickens and a rabbit. Which will be the next to go? It’s a shame knowing someone out there has no sentiment towards another’s pets and simply ignores the enjoyment these precious animals brought to our customers. I guess thats the world we live in today!

Now I understand what my Father meant when he said, “bigger dogs and higher fences,” but in todays world it’s, “expensive detection equipment and a gun.”

While I’m in a negative mood, let me “rag” on a few other things that “tick” me off. I am tired of picking up beer bottles and McDonald wrappers in front of my property every morning.

I am sick of pigeon sacrifices next to my West African tree when in bloom.

I hate seeing someone using food stamps at the grocery store then whipping out a fifty-dollar bill to buy Lotto tickets.

I question, what happened to those simple days of yesteryear when people could pump gas before pre-paying?

Then tell me why people push their grocery carts in handicap parking spaces when a return area is just a few feet away.

The list goes on….but lastly, when did the farmer’s saying “Old Goats Fade Away…” change to “Your Goats Will Be Stolen and Eaten?”
