South Dade Wrestling Wins 17th Straight District Championship

The South Dade Buccaneer Wrestling team, winners of the last 4 consecutive FHSAA 3A state championships are well on their way to a possible 5th straight state crown.

The BUCS advanced all 14 of their wrestlers in style, crowning 12 individual champions and in the process winning their 17th consecutive 3A District 16 title. South Dade out distanced runner up, Miami-Southridge 287.5 - 172.5.

South Dade was led by 2x state champion Brevin Balmeceda (152lbs), who won his 5th consecutive district title. Brevin's district crowns date back to his 7th and 8th grade years when he competed at Keys Gate Charter School against high school juniors and seniors. He is on a quest to become Dade County's 12th 3x state champion.

South Dade's Tyler Orta (126lbs) and Todd Perry Jr. (160lbs) each won their 3rd consecutive district title with one more season remaining for them both.

Sophomore, state champion, Bretli Reyna (120lbs) and senior Mikaelle Fundora (170lbs) each won their second consecutive district title.

Luis Peraza (106lbs), Jason Duarte (138lbs), Fritz Doublas (195lbs), Kenneth Crouse (220lbs) and Trayvonne Jackson (HWT) each won their first individual district crown for the BUCS.

Freshman sensation Joshua Swan (132lbs) won his first district championship in his first attempt, while sophomore Isaac Duran (113lbs) placed 2nd and Junior Miguel Flores placed 3rd.
